How Municipal Court Warrants Work
A municipal-court warrant usually starts in a city's own court, tied to ordinance or fine-only cases. Sterling County works differently. Sterling City's official court notice says no municipal court currently exists and refers the public to the county Justice of the Peace. That leaves no Sterling City municipal warrant portal and no city clerk counter to visit. It does not mean the city writes no citations. Another jurisdiction can still issue municipal process. Read the official Sterling City court notice for the referral.
Sterling County Warrant Questions Go to JP
Warrant and citation questions in Sterling County share one destination. The city points to the countywide Justice Court. Its page links citation information, GovRec, a price list, and a 2026 courtesy letter. The citation number is the search input it documents. Call 325-378-3761. You can also email scjp@co.sterling.tx.us. Hours are Monday through Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., with phones turning off 30 minutes before closing. The Justice Court page posts the court's contacts.
Call the court before paying anything if a warrant or capias might be pending. The county Justice Court page gives the current routing for Sterling County.
Municipal Courts Across Sterling County
Sterling County's court map is lean: one countywide JP and no Sterling City municipal court. The county also runs a constitutional County Court. So does the 51st District Court. Which one owns a case depends on the paperwork, not on where in Sterling County a person lives.
| Office | Municipal Court Status | Warrant or Case Route | Public Contact |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sterling City Hall | City government, not a court | Ask city staff to route a city question | 325-378-2811 / 325-378-2334 |
| Sterling County JP | Countywide lower court | Traffic, Class C, citation, and capias questions | 325-378-3761 |
| Sterling County Sheriff | Law enforcement | Service or status questions it can release | 325-378-4771 |
The city does not publish an independent court phone or warrant line.
Sterling County Warrant Route Skips City Hall
City Hall sits at 508 3rd Street, also listed as Highway 87. It serves city offices, not court hearings. No warrant-payment desk waits inside. A Sterling City citation can still belong to the county JP, so read the issuing-court line and confirm the venue before visiting either building in Sterling County. The official City Hall page gives the city's contact location.

Sterling County Municipal Warrant Checks
No municipal-court search exists in Sterling City. A traffic citation goes through the county JP's GovRec route, as the 2026 letter instructs. For an arrest-warrant question, call the Sheriff. Ask which court issued the process. When a record is not online, the Texas Public Information Act lets anyone ask the office that likely holds it for an existing non-exempt record. One limit stands: a request cannot force Sterling County or the city to build a warrant list.
- Use the citation number from the notice.
- Call the JP if the vendor result does not state whether process was recalled.
- Ask the Sheriff which law-enforcement record it can confirm.
- Send a written request for an existing record if needed.
The county's GovRec route is linked from the Justice Court page.
Sterling County Has No City Warrant Court
Sterling County's oddest wrinkle here is the judge name. Sterling City's notice states the city has no municipal court and points readers to the county JP. That no-court statement is the strongest source available. But the page's judge text is old, and it names Stacy Dyer. The current county Justice page and the 2026 letter both display Melinda Martinez instead. Treat the newer pages as controlling. Call the JP to verify current procedure before relying on any name. Do not carry the old name forward as fact. The city's court notice pairs its no-court statement with the JP referral for Sterling County readers.
The referral lands on the county's current JP contact. Compare the city's court notice with the current Justice Court page for Sterling County.
Municipal Warrants: What They Show
Sterling City publishes no municipal warrant record or sample row, since the city has no municipal court. For a county JP citation, ask the court directly for the fields. Treat these as questions to confirm. No Sterling County city database produced them.
| Citation number | Use the number on the ticket or court notice. |
|---|---|
| Issuing court | Confirm whether the JP or another court opened the case. |
| Process label | Ask whether the file says FTA, alias, capias, or capias pro fine. |
| Payment status | Ask whether the judgment is paid and whether process was recalled separately. |
| Next setting | Confirm if an appearance or other court date remains due. |
Sterling County Has No City Warrant Portal
Sterling City has no police warrant page, no active list, no most-wanted page, and no warrant phone. Its contact site and court notice offer no search fields or results table. The county Sheriff publishes 325-378-4771 for law-enforcement questions. Traffic and Class C matters go to the JP. The Sheriff page links VINELink for custody status, but that tool is not a warrant search. See the Sheriff contact page and the city's no-court notice.
Clearing a Municipal Court Warrant
With no municipal court in Sterling City, a resident must first identify the court named on the citation. Read the citation. Confirm the court before paying. Ask before you seek a recall on a county JP case, since payment, a plea, a reset, a payment plan, or a separate court order may be what the warrant takes.
Payment is not automatic recall. Ask the JP whether a payment satisfies only the judgment or also clears the specific warrant or capias.
Sterling County's 2026 letter allows mail payments only by money order or cashier's check and bars phone payments. No local warrant bond schedule or walk-in surrender hours are published.
Sterling County Warrant Links Differ by Citation
Sterling County routes citation payments by venue. The city site offers a TrafficPayment interface for citation search and payment. The county Justice page and its 2026 letter point instead to the GovRec route for Sterling County citations. Neither link doubles as a full municipal-warrant search. Pay through whichever option the issuing court names. Then call the JP to confirm whether active process still stands. The TrafficPayment page shows an invoice lookup for city tickets.
A payment screen cannot confirm current warrant status without the court. The current route is Sterling County GovRec.
Sterling County Warrant Status Needs JP Confirmation
When the city name and the court name do not match, ask the JP to read the venue from the citation number. For arrest service, call the Sheriff. Then call the issuing court. A records request can surface existing files but cannot decide what legal action clears them. Sterling City's official court notice and the Sterling County Justice Court page give the current local routing.
